Former Mayor of Kigali, Ms. Kirabo is currently the Governor of Eastern Province, the largest province in Rwanda with a population of 2.5 million. Prior to her position as Mayor, Ms. Kirabo was an Elected Member of Parliament (and member of Parliamentary Standing Committee in charge of land use and management, settlement and environment), and she actively participated in the legislative and over-sight functions of parliament in addition to community mobilization. Ms. Kirabo was educated at James Cook University, Australia, where she gained her Masters in Veterinary Science in Animal Production and Economics and at Makerere University, Uganda, where she gained her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. She is currently pursuing an MBA in the School of Finance and Banking, Rwanda/Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands.

She served as a parliamentary aide for the City and State Councils. She was the first woman to work as Municipal Secretary for Sports, from 2000 to 2004, and brought to São Paulo the South American Games. She is the President of the São Paulo Expo 2020 Bidding Committee, and also the Coordinator of SP COPA, a special committee created to oversee the city’s preparations for the World Cup of 2014.

Dr. Khosla is the Director of the Centre for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) in India. She works with slum communities in a number of Indian cities with the purpose of reimagining slum development; engineering a shift from city to people-led development. Through her work, she is; strengthening capacity of local, state and national government agencies for engaging with the poor, visualizing community information using spatial (GIS) technologies, and localizing implementation strategies for building inclusive cities. She has in-depth understanding of slum communities and city development issues in India, and the relevant procedures and policies and their applications for integrated slums development. Her projects are innovative and have received several best practice awards/citations and are under replication in other cities.

Henk de Zeeuw is the former director of the RUAF Foundation, the international network of Resource centres on Urban Agriculture and Food security, based in Leusden, the Netherlands. In 1987 he joined ETC Foundation as a senior consultant mainly focusing on participatory extension and participatory research in agriculture, transition to ecological agriculture, farmer organisation, capacity development and institutional strengthening. He also developed an interest in urban food security issues and farming in and around cities. She is editor of the 'Forum' section of the journal CITY which seeks to stimulate debate on the city from a variety of experiences and viewpoints - especially those outside the confines of academia and the 'global north'. Ms. Rose Molokoane is National Chairperson of the 80,000-member South African Homeless People's Federation, their national savings coordinator, and a Board Member of Shack/Slum Dwellers International (SDI). A South African veteran of the anti-apartheid struggle, she is one of the most internationally recognized grassroots activists involved in land tenure and housing issues.Rose Molokoane has travelled to Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines as well as many African nations to share SDI’s methods. She was awarded the Habitat Scroll of Honour in 2005 for her tireless struggle to bring land and homes to the poor.

Marina Klemensiewicz, Political Sciences graduate from Universidad Católica Argentina, has a vast experience in disability inclusion issues. During eight years, she was Director of Fundacion Par, Argentinean nonprofit organization created in 1988 in order to promote work inclusion of disabled for their full insertion on a competitive level.
There, she developed strategic plans for the development of new programs of inclusive education and citizen participation. She was in charge of PR and Institutional Relations and was responsible for managing alliances with private companies, the State and nonprofit organizations, both national and foreign.
From December 2007 to 2011 she was the President of the Commission for the Full Participation and Inclusion of Disabled People, of the Buenos Aires City Government. In July 2011, she became elected the third MP candidate for Propuesta Republicana (PRO) Political party, role she quitted from in order to take charge as Secretary of Habitat and Inclusion, dependant on the Ministry of Economic Development of the Buenos Aires City Government.

Prior to that she was the Head of the Department of Social Work, University of Johannesburg, between 2002 – July 2007, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (1998 –2002). Simultaneously, Prof Patel was the Vice-Principal, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, (2000 –2002). She was also appointed as a Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (1998- 2002). Prior to this she was the Director General of the Department of Welfare (1996 – 1998) and Advisor to the Minister of Welfare and Population Development (1995).

Ms. Liao has been a human rights officer with OHCHR since 2006, serving as Regional Human Rights Officer based in Northern Uganda, OHCHR Deputy Representative and Field Coordinator for the Uganda Office, and Justice and Legal Coordinator for the Human Rights Unit of United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS). Before joining OHCHR Ms. Liao was rule of law focal point for United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in its Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy Unit, initiating the UNICEF work on UN common position on Justice for Children. Prior to her work with United Nations institutions, she worked for the Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and as a researcher and lecturer for different law schools. Yunus Carrim became politically active while in high school and was key to organising an anti-Apartheid Republic Day Festival demonstration in 1971.
